On Sunday 12th July, Dolgellau Angling Association held its annual locals competition at Llyn Cynwch.
Weather conditions favoured both competitions, Fly fishing in the morning and bait competition in the afternoon however the fishing proved to be more challenging than expected.
In the juniors section, Sion Davenport won with a bag of six fish weighing 9lb and in the seniors Rob Redman won with his bag of five fish weighing in at 8lb 11oz, beating two other bags of five fish. Dylan Davenport won the heaviest fish at 2lb 11oz.
There were 22 competing in three categories. Aron Humphreys won the children's juniors competition with his bag of ten fish at 15lb 12oz. LLia Edwards won the under 16's with two fish at 2lb 7oz. In the seniors, Darren Vaughan beat off two others to win the heaviest bag with his four fish at 6lb 12oz. Darren also had the heaviest fish at 2lb 1oz, just beating Beryl Roberts fishing for the first time with her lovely brownie of 2lb. Cups were presented by Mark Roberts, vice chairman together with rods for the children.
81 fish were caught on the day & reports that the lake had fished well days before with fish of 4lb reported. Best fish caught this season so far is a 11lb rainbow.

At the executive committee meeting held at the Royal Ship Hotel, 5th Junel, it was desided that the second DAA working party of the new season will be held on Sunday 5th July 2015. Please meet at Bont y Werddu car park at 10am. Bring waders, saws, loppers and gloves. Please make every effort to turn up. We need your help.
The annual fishing competition will be held at Llyn Cynwch on 12th July. The competition is open to local senior and junior members only.
Fly fishing competition 9:00am – 1:00pm
Bait competition 2:00pm – 6:00pm
Entrance fee: £5 for each session for adults and £2.50 each session for children
Registration: Please be at the lake 30 minutes before start time.
No bag limit.
